Have you ever wondered exactly how you know when it’s time to hire an online business manager? Let’s face it, we aren’t exactly a “fly by the seat of your pants” type investment now are we? The wrong decision here can leave you out some money AND leave you with some serious upset in the pit of your stomach.
So let’s play it safe, here are 5 signs it’s time to hire an OBM.
You have crazy business growth and a shrinking personal life
Drowning is a major sign that it’s time to hire and OBM and no I don’t mean a literal drowning at the deep end of the pool. I mean that suddenly you are SWAMPED and straight up struggling to keep your head above water. You’re obviously good at what you do because the clients are pouring in, but you don’t remember the last time you had a meal away from your desk.
The thing is, you probably started this business to have MORE free time, not less. Now you’ve missed Billy’s entire season of soccer games and Suzie’s last dance recital. You are tired. You are maybe even somewhat starting to resent this business that you should love. It’s time to hire an OBM. They let you focus on doing the things you love and move out of the day to day, tedious tasks that you simply no longer have time for. Also, you can eat lunch, shower and go on vacations again. You’re Welcome.
You are turning off all your amazing ideas
If you’re like most entrepreneurs you have at least ten grand ideas rolling around in your head at once. (Trust me, OBMs know entrepreneurs are like this, we wrangle those ideas all the time.) When is the last time you could actually push one out in the world though? Do you have time to launch a new offer, create a new course or put out a new product? If the answer is no then you need an OBM.
The world needs your gifts and ideas and when you are caught in the day to day your creativity can suffer. Even if it doesn’t then at best you come up with an amazing plan but have no time to implement it. This is a sure sign that it’s time to hire an OBM.
You are still doing the grunt work
There’s a really good chance that if you’ve hit the six figure mark and are still doing ALL the things then it’s time to hire an OBM. First, an OBM will make sure you have an amazing team in place to take care of all those things for you. Second, an OBM won’t care to have a loving “come to Jesus” meeting with you when you still try to do those things. (I see you out there you control freaks, it’s okay, we know how to deal with you.)
It’s amazing if you still want to write your social copy or answer your own emails. The point is you shouldn’t HAVE to do those things. At this point in your business you should start shifting away from the mundane into doing what you really love. So maybe for you that means no more proofreading your own blog posts or creating your own images. Maybe you will no longer be formatting and sending your own emails. Hire an OBM and they will help you figure it all out.
You have a very good team that you are starting to find extremely annoying
Do you feel like you may explode if you get asked one more question or have to assign one more task? Even the most phenomenal teams will fall apart without great leadership. Most entrepreneurs didn’t grow up dreaming of business management so it’s understandable if you don’t want to wear that hat.
An OBM is the bridge between the entrepreneur and their team. Does it mean you can never attend another team Zoom meeting ever? Of course not. It simply means that you let your OBM do all the heavy lifting when it comes to team management. Have a project that needs tasked out? Ask your OBM. Need to hire a new team member? Ask your OBM. Want to make sure everyone’s using their time wisely? Well, you get the picture here.
Your revenue is stuck
Have you ever heard of the quarter million dollar speed bump? The dollar amount really doesn’t matter, but it’s essentially the place were most entrepreneurs get stuck. It’s the place where the only thing holding the business back is you. Your to do list is too long and your days are too short. Your ideas have dried up and you end every day longing to bang your head on your desk. (Okay, maybe it’s not THIS dramatic, I’m just trying to make a point here.)
What you need is someone to strategize all of those great ideas with you and turn them into an action plan. You see, an OBM is like a business coach PLUS implementation. We know all of those cool tricks and tips that will get your ideas out into the world, but we also know how to ACT on them. It’s what sets us apart. Hire an OBM to walk with you to the next level of your business.
Still have that woozy feeling in the pit of your stomach? Here are some additional questions you can ask yourself before you make the leap:
- Have I hit six figures in revenue? (If not, you’re probably not ready yet, but keep moving forward!)
- Do I have a clear vision of where I want to take this business that I love?
- Am I ready to step fully into the CEO role and let someone else manage this business for me?
